The fortress of Sacsayhuaman, is one of the most important Inca buildings and more amazed by its grandeur and perfection, only to Machu Picchu and Choquequirao is located two miles north of the city of Cusco, at an altitude of 3700 m. , surrounded by three mountains: Ausangate, Pachatusan five and bathed by the River Tullumayo

This fort or, as is also believed may have been an important ceremonial center dedicated to the Sun, is just 2 kilometers from Cusco, the historic capital of the country, at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level.

The large stone blocks used to build even come to be about 9 meters high, those located on the first platform, and weigh no more and no less than to about 200 tons.

It is believed, this monumental work was started by Pachacuti, the ninth governor and one of those responsible for the expansion of the Empire, and would have continued Tupac Yupanqui, however, some historians believe that Huayna Capac was responsible for giving the shot. The work would have demanded some 70 years and would have required the force of 20,000 men, both in the work of the foundation and the fortress itself.

This is the official stage of the festival of Inti Raymi.
